Charles Ross Apple
The Charles Ross apple is a traditional English variety, introduced in the late 19th century by Charles Ross at Welford Park Gardens in Berkshire. This dual-purpose apple is renowned for its large, round, and colourful fruits, which are sweet and juicy, making them excellent for both fresh eating and cooking. The tree is moderately vigorous and exhibits good resistance to common apple diseases, including scab. Charles Ross is partially self-fertile but benefits from a pollination partner from Groups 2, 3, or 4 to enhance fruit set. Typically ready for harvest in mid-September, the apples store well, with their flavour becoming more pronounced after a period of storage. With a mature height and spread of 4–8 meters, depending on the chosen rootstock, Charles Ross is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a flavourful and versatile apple variety
