Ashmeads Kernel Apple
Ashmead's Kernel is a classic English apple variety, originating in the 1700s in Gloucestershire. Renowned for its distinctive pear-like flavor and crisp, juicy texture, this late-season apple is perfect for fresh eating, cooking, and juicing. The medium-sized, russeted fruits are typically ready for harvest in October and develop their full flavor after a period of storage. Ashmead's Kernel requires a pollination partner from Groups 3, 4, or 5 and has good resistance to common apple diseases, including scab and mildew. With a mature height of 2–4 meters and a spread of 2–3 meters, depending on the chosen rootstock, it is suitable for gardens of various sizes. This variety has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, highlighting its excellence for garden use.
