Beurre Hardy, crafted in the 1820s by M. Bonnet of Boulogne in northern France, resulted from the collaboration between fruit enthusiasts like Bonnet and the Belgian pear expert Van Mons. This pear variety embodies the classic traits found in the finest European pears, boasting a lusciously sweet and juicy, melting flesh with a subtle floral flavor. Ideal for novice gardeners, Beurre Hardy features a diploid ploidy, slightly large vigor, and an upright growth habit. While it is slow to start bearing, it maintains regular fruit-bearing patterns as a spur-bearer. However, it is not self-fertile and has poor pollination capabilities.
