This exceptional pear variety, originating from the Rivers Nursery in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, in the latter part of the 19th century, is believed to have emerged as a seedling from the continental variety known as Van Mons Leon Leclerc. Its name pays homage to the National British Pear Conference held in 1885.
