Egremont Russet Apple
The Egremont Russet apple is a classic English dessert variety, first recorded in 1872 and believed to have been raised by the Earl of Egremont at Petworth in Sussex, UK. Renowned for its rich, nutty flavour and distinctive russeted skin, this medium-sized apple features a yellowish-green skin almost entirely covered with rough, brownish russeting. The flesh is firm, fine-textured, and offers a rich, nutty flavour. Typically ready for harvest from late September to early October, Egremont Russet apples are excellent for fresh eating and pair well with cheeses. The tree exhibits moderate disease resistance and is suitable for various growing conditions. As a self-sterile variety in Pollination Group 2, Egremont Russet requires a compatible pollination partner from Groups 1, 2, or 3 to produce fruit. With a mature height and spread of 3–4 meters, depending on the chosen rootstock, Egremont Russet is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a flavourful and traditional apple variety.
